Computation

Ross Thursday General Mills put on a Holiday Party for us. There was lots of free food and drink at the local country club. Afterwards I went and played poker with a few of the guys. Apparently they get about 20 people together every Thursday to play Texas Hold’em. $10 gets you a night of fun, and if you get to the last 5 you can usually get your money back if not more.

On Friday and Saturday Heidi and I, along with my parents, spent out time at The Cabin (AKA grandparent’s house). Part of the reason for the trip was that my grandparents needed help setting up their new computer. Not a big deal for me, but for them installing a printer, antivirus, and coping all the important files from their old computer to the new one is too much.
They were going to get rid of their old computer so I ended up taking it home in trade for my services. It is 4 years old but it works, and I use computers so much that I always have the need for extra computing power. This brings my total number of desktop computers up to 3. If I include my work laptops and Heidi’s laptop I bring my total to 6 computers all running at home in the same room. Although using all 6 at once would be a challenge. image
A little random piece of trivia is that Google started out with 5 or so "old" computers. Even now Google just uses lots of "regular" desktop computers to do all their computing. It is actually cheaper to have a lot of “regular” computers then having a few super computers.
